3 Unsuccessful Kickstarter Projects:

Only approx 35% of projects are successfully funded, and go on to full delivery.

Here are three projects that I backed, but they did not reach the amount required to go forward.

Fortunately, if the amount pledged does not reach the amount required, no monies are taken from your account, so you don’t lose anything. (Big sigh of relief…!)

1.            CycloShield: Threat Detection, offenders recording and SOS

A very interesting idea, built around a bikes rear light. It incorporated Lights, Video Recording, GPS, Alert System and a host of other ideas.

It was totally impractical, and probably would never have worked, even if the product could have been built.

CycloShield is a comprehensive electronic system for passive safety, which helps commuters and sports people to have a safer experience

CycloShield is a comprehensive electronic system for passive safety, which helps commuters and sportspeople to have a safer experience on the road.

Equipped with a set of sensors that allows detection of accidents and falls, CycloShield is able to autonomously detect the approach or threat of another vehicle and perform actions about it.

In the event of an accident it can contact your “In Case of Emergency” person and the local emergency service with your GPS location.
It is completely autonomous.

This emergency call system vastly reduces the emergency services response time, enabling an almost immediate response to incidents on the road.

CycloShield collects data and learns using machine learning, notifying you of dangerous roads and can make suggestions regarding safer times and roads to cycle.

CycloShield is also focused on monitoring your sport activity, recording training sessions and improvements of your performance. You can view the data on your phone or download to your computer via the integrated Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

CycloShield is compatible with the majority of activity monitors and mobile applications on the market.

The mount pledged was £2,999 out of a requirement of £500,000. 44 Backers were convinced enough that it would be a viable product. I think from very early on, it was a great idea, but the project was not really realistic.

2.            Pocket Pouch:   A storage solution for cycling essentials.

Pocket Pouch was a small(ish) zipped wallet that could slip into your back jersey pocket. It would hold your ‘phone, some money and a couple of other riding essentials.

Pocket Pouch has been designed for cyclists and commuters, protecting valuables from impact, wear and the outdoor environment.

Designed specifically for cyclists, Pocket Pouch offers a range of useful features:

            #          Large zip aids use with wet and cold hands.
            #          Water resistant shell and zip provides protection from the elements.
            #          Rigid 3mm shock absorbing EVA shell provides impact protection.
            #          Neoprene phone pocket provides scratch protection for a mobile phone screen.
            #          Tiered pockets offer storage for other essentials such as cards, cash, keys, gels, tools and tyre levers.

Unfortunately, even after obtaining more money, via pledges, than was required, the project was cancelled. No reason was ever given for the cancellation.

188 backers pledged £4,908 out of a goal of £1,500.

3.      Triangle Symbol Bike Lights that MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

These Triangular Symbol Lights use a Cyclist Symbol as the light and the triangle of traffic warning signs to say ‘Here’s a cyclist!’
